20, 2013 Sprint Update (Updated July 11, 2013) We are a little more than 1 weeks away from the Chattahoochee Challenge Sprint Triathlon in Columbus, GA. We are very excited that you will be racing with us this year. We have a few updates for you: Start Time: We will be starting the race at 7:00am. Physically Challenged athletes will begin at 6:50am. Packet Pick Up: Ride On Bikes located at 1036 Broadway Columbus, GA 31901. Their phone number is (706) 324-1132. Packets may be picked up Friday from 4-7pm or Saturday at transition from 500am-6:30am. All athletes MUST bring all of the following to Packet Pick Up: 1. Government issue valid photo ID 2. Valid USAT card (if a member) USAT Rules and Regulations: The TriColumbusGA Chattahoochee Challenge Race Series is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. This will mean that all participants will need to be either an annual member of USAT or procure a one-day membership and sign a waiver. One day memberships for 2012 are $12 which can be purchased during registration. Bike Check In: Bikes will be checked in race morning only. Nutrition: Run: Aid Station will be located at 1.5 miles -water and HEED (Hammer product) will be provided. Swim Waves: Athletes will start the swim portion of the race from a dock off the stairs at the swim start. (Woodruff Park) The Sprint triathlon is conducted in a time trial fashion. Athletes will start one at a time and is staged on a first come first serve basis. We ask if you are a slower swimmer, you stage yourself in the front to middle of the line. Pre Swim and Wetsuits: The swim will likely NOT be wetsuit legal. Water temperatures are currently hovering around 79 degrees. The swim course will be 500m DOWNSTREAM. Buoys will be set up on along the course. We ask that you keep buoys on your RIGHT at all times. Typically we host a practice swim the Saturday prior to the event. However, due to the incredible amount of race we have had in the past two weeks, we are unsure at this point if that practice swim will be held. Please keep up to date via facebook or call/text 8084787576. Transition: Transition Area is located behind the Trade Center in the One Arsenol Parking Lot. The Columbus Trade Center is located at 801 Front Avenue Columbus, GA 31901-2714 Swim Course: The swim will likely NOT be wetsuit legal. Water temperatures are currently hovering around 79 degrees. The swim course will be 500m DOWNSTREAM. Buoys will be set up on along the course. We ask that you keep buoys on your RIGHT at all times. This flow of traffic is for your safety. Bike Course: The bike course begins and ends on the Columbus Riverwalk. Race in Progress signs will be posted along thise stretch and entrances will be blocked. However, this is open to the public. Foot traffic is very light and patrons are accustom to bike traffic. We will have a lead vehicle will clear any traffic. The bike course is loop course, please follow all signs and volunteer instructions. Please be mindful that the City of Columbus is graciously allowing us to use their property and drop all trash at water stations ONLY. Police and volunteers will be located on the course at critical intersections for your safety. Technical support will be on the course to assist with emergency repairs whenever possible; but athletes are expected to be able to handle basic repairs (changing a flat, basic adjustments, etc) themselves. Please be self-sufficient. Run Course: The run course is very flat 1-loop course. Aid stations are located approx. at 1.5 miles. Should family and friends wish to send their athlete a motivational message there will be sidewalk chalk available at transition/packet pick up. Itinerary: Friday July 19, 2013: Packet Pick up at Ride On Bikes (located on Broadway) 4-7pm Saturday July 20, 2013: 5:00am Transition Opens/Race day registration/Packet Pick up 6:30am Transition Closes 6:40am Pre race Brief at swim start 6:45am National Anthem 6:50am Cannon Fires from the National Infantry Museum Historical Boat 6:50am Race Starts with Physically Challenged athletes Approx 9:30am Awards Ceremony Entertainment: Whitewater Express Chattahoochee: Buy One, Get One. If the weather conditions are hazardous, Race Management has the right to change, eliminate parts of the course, or delay up to a point. However, if it is deemed to dangerous to race, the event will be canceled and there will be no refunds. Of course, since we are athletes ourselves, we will do everything in our power to have the event, but your safety is of our utmost concern.
