2015: Jonathan’ll lose in northern states, says Kwankwaso Via: PunchNews The Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said President Goodluck Jonathan cannot win any of the 19 northern states in a free and fair contest come 2015. Kwankwaso said this in six posts on his twitter handle @Rkwankwaso which was viewed by our correspondent, in Abuja, on Monday. The governor said he arrived at this conclusion after undertaking a survey of northern states. He explained that his findings showed that none of the affected states would be willing to vote in favour of the current state of affairs. Kwankwaso said, “I have not taken the time to go to the South to study what is happening, but I had time to study the North. In the 19 states I don’t see any state where under a free and fair election; people will go and vote for the status quo. “The status quo is not good for anybody because it has failed to provide the basic services to justify why the people voted for this government. “Being a President is not about personal enjoyment, it also does not mean protecting some and ignoring others. “Once anyone is elected as a President or a governor, you are no more the chairman of your party, you are no more Edwin Clark, who is the leader of the Ijaw nation, but you are the President for both who voted for you and those who did not, those who like you, and those who do not like you.” The governor, who has signified interest in contesting the Presidency in 2015 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, said a government in a blessed and rich country like Nigeria which could not protect its citizens did not deserve to be in office. He expressed disappointment that thousands of Nigerians were currently in Niger Republic, Cameroun and Chad as refugees and nobody was even talking about them. This, and others he said, were the issues on the ground that must be tackled. “Today whether you are from the South or the North, Christian or Muslim does not matter; what really matter is how to get peace back,” he added. Speaking about the growing state of insecurity especially in the North-East, Kwankwaso said the protection of every inch of the Nigerian territory and the people therein; was the responsibility of the occupant of the office of President irrespective of tribe, religion, culture or political affiliation. He, however, said the situation today was such that people were being killed, maimed and even abducted on a daily basis. The governor noted that security was the most basic of functions of any government therefore any government that could not provide the basic needs of its people had no business hanging on. Kwankwaso observed that the absence of purposeful leadership was the reason why even the international community feel that there is no government in Nigeria.
