If you have not yet sent her your Team NAME please do so. • At 5pm PST on Friday Sep 26 Aubry Mintz will announce this year’s theme via streaming site. Here is the link to the site which will be live Friday at 4:30pm https://youtube/watch?v=1rZ9YeK5EWU • Teams will have exactly 24 Hours to complete a 30 second animated film. • Each team must send a YouTube link with the final film to [email protected] BEFORE 5pm Saturday Sep 27 2013. Be sure to have ONE MEMBER from each team create a YouTube account ahead of time so that you are able to upload a file. Late submissions will be disqualified so please be sure to plan time for troubleshooting/mistakes etc. • Films cannot be longer than 30 seconds long. Films must have a title slate OR team name at the start of each film. The name/title will NOT count towards the length of the film. Please do NOT use your school name OR team members names to make sure judging is un-biased • Teams can create their films in any media they choose (traditional, CG, stop mo, experimental, rotoscope etc. as long as there is frame by frame manipulation). They may NOT create any artwork ahead of time. They are advised to think about the strengths of their team and how they might execute their films. They should arrive to the contest prepared with supplies/programs etc. and/or supplement any equipment the school may not have. They cannot download any rigs/models etc. as everything must be created from scratch during the contest. This will force them to think on their toes and work within constraints. THE FACULTY • Every team must have permission from the school and space to work at the school. • The teachers should be there to kick off the event and make sure all of the students are put in teams and have the necessary equipment/facilities. • Teachers do not have to stay 24 hours, unless you really want to, but we recommend you stay until each team has a story idea (suggested production schedule will be sent to teams). • The teacher may NOT give any answers in any way (no drawing, whispering, passing notes, charades etc.), ... • BUT teachers may help students by asking questions to help them come up with their own answer. (Think Tim Gunn from Project Runway, It looks like your having problems, I’m not sure that is reading, is there another way?, Make it work ,etc. ) • Teachers cannot help students complete their films in any way. Part of the challenge is for students to learn how to troubleshoot their problems. If they do not meet their deadline, this is part of the lesson. • Teachers should find ways to motivate students throughout production. If you see students taking too long in one area, feel free to suggest they move on to the next step. Keeping them on schedule with reminders, posters, yelling through the halls, cow bells etc. is encouraged • Teachers make sure students are nourished with food, water, snacks, redbull etc. We would like all of our participants to not only complete their films, but also live through this experience:) It is also recommended that teachers ask students to find a ride home from someone NOT participating in the contest to avoid any dangerous driving on the road. JUDGING • The judges will be evaluating films using the following criteria (10 points each): 1. Storytelling 2. Art Direction/Design/Animation 3. Creativity (how they interpreted the theme and executed the idea) 4. Completion - (you can interpret this in different ways complete story, animation, color, characters consistent etc) TOTAL SCORE = /40 PRIZES • Scores will be tallied and winners will be announced on Monday Sep 29 at 12:30pm via streaming site, email and Facebook page https://facebook/groups/379701672098072/ • 5 winning teams will be selected (1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, etc.) • Prizes will be mailed/emailed to the winning teams. • The following sponsors have donated these incredibly generous prizes which will be distributed amongst the winners: CTN- (5) x full 3-day passes to CTNX Wacom – (5) Intuos Pen Small Tablets ASIFA-Hollywood – (5) 1-year Associate memberships Digicel – (5) permanent licenses to Flipbook Studio Stuart NG – (5) $50 gift certificates Toon Boom - (25) 1-year licenses to both Storyboard Pro and Animate Pro DreamWorks – (5) prize packs (DreamWorks Books and Merchandise) Disney Feature Animation – (5) prize packs (Drawn to Life Vol.1 and Vol.2 and Disney Merchandise) If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask us.
