#24: Her (2013) [Spike Jonze] Spike Jonze is the man responsible for some of our favorite music videos. Hes done a number for the beastie boys, he did a Daft Punk video as well as a Biggy video. The famous Christopher Walken Fatboy Slim video https://youtube/watch?v=XQ7z57qrZU8. He did the video for Get Back by Ludacris and also the great Otis video for Kanye and Jay-Z. On top of those great music videos he also directed the brilliant Charlie Kaufman screenplays including Being John Malkovich and Adaptation (both on this list). He enthusiastically brought Where the Wild Things Are to life in 2009. (Hes also friends with the jackass guys and was one of the guys dressed up as old people). After such a great stretch of a career, Spike Jonze has finally written and directed his own full-length feature film. I called Her the best movie of 2013 and I still believe that. It is a fantastic study of relationships while using an odd and unique concept to deliver its themes. It is funny at times, ridiculous at others and incredibly moving all over. It has a great visual style for the future and has one of Scarlett Johanssons best performances ever without even seeing her at all. Not to mention the always fantastic Joaquin Phoenix is the lead, holding most of the movie in a close-up of his face. #23: Groundhog Day (1993) [Harold Ramis] The definition of a philosophical comedy. You know the concept. You know Bill Murray is in it and you know everybody loves it. So why havent you seen this movie!?!?
