247 Hectares next to the Baviaans Mega Reserve R988 000 This farm sits on the south - western side of the foothills of Cockscomb Peak which forms part of the Groot Winterhoek mountain range i.e. west of Uitenhage. Description This property falls in an area which is perhaps one of the last few stretches of pristine Eastern Cape wilderness outside of the Baviaanskloof. Despite its relative close proximity to the urban centres of Uitenhage and Port Elizabeth, it remains secluded due to the towering Groot Winterhoek Mountains and surrounding foothills. The surrounding topography is as dramatic as it comes, with a series of deep drainage lines with streams and cliff faces interspersed with elevated ridges and flat well grassed plateaus. Veld types This farm is ecologically diverse consisting mainly of the grassy fynbos biome associated with the sour, elevated soils on the ridges, and then small pockets of subtropical thicket biome in the lower lying valleys, and the grassland biome occurs on the foothills and valley floors. What is rather special regarding this farm is that in addition to the sour veld it also has isolated pockets of sweet veld as is evident in the healthy stands of Sweet Thorn which act as a magnate to Kudus from the surrounding area. Grass species found are predominately those associated with the sour fynbos biome and are dominated by the aristida species, a healthy covering of Themeda, intermittent stands of hetrapogon and merxmuella. Plant species found include: Fynbos biome - various proteas (e.g. Broad-leaf sugarbush and pincushions), ericas and restioids. Indigenous cycads (mainly Encephalartos longifolius) - survivors from an ancient era.
