3.5GHz Spectrum gone. 2.3GHz sold off, and Nigeria is slowly but steadily inching closer to full sufficiency in the data Internet coverage. Now, government is taking the stakes further with 2x70 slots in the 2.6GHz frequency spectrum. NCC took the case to industry stakeholders on how to manage the process, particularly, sales procedure, criteria and pre-qualification. In the 2.3 GHz auction, there were 27 expressions of interest, but only two made the final bid, NCC director, Spectrum management, Austine Nwaulune, an engineer, told the crowd that gathers at the Lagos Oriental Hotels, during the consultation forum, on Thursday. Even though, some analysts saw the interests as lukewarm, some rated the web-based auction, as a credible process. That would seem to be the model to replicate in the course of the 2.6GHz bid round. And despite all the issues and contributions, keeping it simple, is just the way to manage cynicism and fears of throwing money into an undefined territory, such as, deploying services in a non-viable market with borrowed funds. This is, and was, the key question or concern, from speakers. All said, it was a good outing and kudos to the organizers, as Nigeria heads towards robust knowledge economy.
