31/7/2013. OPEN LETTER TO THE UGANDAN CHIEF JUSTICE: Dear Sir, It is rare for an employee to be called back from retirement to keep on running his or her office so congratulations upon your re-appointment as the chief justice for two more years. Many Employers don’t want be associated with old people but your case is different. They always crave for new young blood because they believe that aged people are expired and therefore should retire. They forget that old is GOLD and that OBUKADE MAGEZI (wisdom comes with age). I strongly believe that it is because of your hard working that you have been recalled. Otherwise if you had been a bad leader, nobody would want to be allied with you. Your re-appointment has confirmed what the Baganda believe that, “WOVA NGA TOYOMBYE WOTERA KUDA”. Meaning that if you leave a place without quarreling, you are always welcome back. Thank you for leading the Judiciary, the third arm of Government independently for many years. It could be because of your impartiality that the majority of the population still trusts the judiciary…. But as you take up your “NEW” office, allow me to point out a few opinions that could be of help; In Rukiga, we believe that OMUSHEIJA AHINDUKA AHA KYITANDA, TAHINDUKA AHA RURIMI. This literally means that a man can only turn on his bed for obvious reasons but he can never change his words. This means that for any man, his word should always be his bond. History tells us that you personally chaired a commission that drafted the 1995 constitution which is governing us. You are the people that insisted on age limits for public officers. So why do you swallow your own WORDS at a time like this? For purposes of protecting our constitution which you promised that you would always protect while swearing, why can`t you request the appointing authority to appoint someone else? Why don’t you people practice what you preach? Why can`t you lead by example? How do you expect a lay man like me to respect the rule of law in our country if you the custodian of the law can`t respect it yourself? Do you want to convince me that there is no judge that can do the work you have always been doing? Let us assume that you are irreplaceable then whose fault is it? It is definetly yours! Isn`t it common knowledge that a good leader grooms his subordinates to take over office once he is gone? No human being can live forever. Likewise no leader can lead forever. A time has to come when you face the exit! Then many people get back to work after retirement mainly because they didn’t save enough money and so have to make ends meet. Do you want to convince me that you don’t have enough money to cater for you and your family for all the years you will live? Isn`t your retirement package enough? I will not accept to be lied to! I strongly believe that you have enough money. Go right ahead and enjoy it. Money is useless unless it is put to use! Kindly learn to CHOP your own money or else someone will chop it once you are gone. Invest and harvest! Money is not flowers that should decorate your bank account(S) so put it to use. No one ever gathers enough money in his or her life time. May you appreciate the little you have and put it to use. Then, remember that everyone is on this planet is meant to leave it a better place. So apart from serving your country in the law field, you can`t create a change in somebody else`s life. This is the time to support charity work and get connected to your creator. Money is useless if it is not shared. Just as the holy book teaches us, true religion is when someone helps widows and orphans. Therefore why don’t you use this time to atleast be a holy man instead of listening to people quarreling in court? By the way, aren’t you tired of KATEMBA MU KOOTI (drama in court)? Lastly, Retirement should be a time when someone reconnects with family and friends after many years of hard work. So why do you to replace your personal life with work again? This is the time you should live stress free “spoiling” yourself like there is no tomorrow. Remember, you only have one life to live so enjoy it. Your grand children need a JAJA (grand dad) to play with, so don’t deny them of that opportunity. I recently saw your picture in the media dancing with members of parliament on the day the 2013/2014 budget was read to the country. You danced PAKA KYINI and you still looked fit at your age (70). This means that you can still dance. Why don’t you utilize this time in living your life? Change from suits to jeans and T-shirts, play golf, go to clubs, do the beer, pull some swaggg, dance, try puffing SHISHA and generally live your life. You hustled for many years so enjoy the remaining time. In case you don’t know the happening places around, put my services to use. I will gladly help in spoiling you…… Otherwise, It is my desire that you think about the above points and may be they could be of help to you and the entire country. I wish you the very best of luck. For God and my country, RUTANYARAHANSI.
