4. SEYI, THE DILIGENT LEADER Though I consulted and read many meanings of the word DILIGENT but none seems to satisfy my craving like my description of the word: consistent efforts at producing the desired results. Diligence is important in leadership because though the leader MAY NOT lead in all things but to be effective, he MUST lead in most. However, because a leader is not necessarily a perfect being, also liable to errors and faults, but it must be obvious there are consistent passionate efforts to conquer self and gain more grounds. Proverbs 22:29 says: Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings.... I know many look at this from the perspective of monetary considerations alone but the truth is that this holy quote is applicable to all things in life; whether good or bad, whether humane or not; diligence is the foundation of mastery. Therefore, its not just enough to be diligent, you must be diligent in doing the right things at the right time. Ladies and gentlemen, great people of pacesetter state, I present to you Engr Seyi Makinde, the man full of energy and dessipated in well planned passionate routines only. When others are going to casinos all over the world, clubbing on yatchs, womanising and wining about; this young man has devoted his time to set great pace in his industry, set and keep new records and made enough wealth to bring smiles to many faces. Before coming FULLY into politics, he spends more hours traveling about the globe than on the land. Though he always attributes positive outcomes to God, he has succeeded in making his family, Oyo state and Nigeria proud through his diligence. As a politician, this young man has to be extra diligent to be able to balance his business and political lives; its as if he needs more than 24hours. As a miniature player in both industries, I wonder how he manages to cope. Its diligence that makes him attend some functions from across the world, its diligence that makes him the first to attend to victims of disasters and its diligence that makes him devote enough time to his followers, even when he knows some of them are preying on him. Seyi Makinde humbly epitomises diligence. The rot in the system demands a very diligent, compassionate, courageous, visionary leader to accomplish meaningful transformations within a four year term. Through diligence, Obama, Bill Clinton and even Fashola grew more grey hair in a short while in executive office; unlike these empire wreckers who loot our treasuries, add more fats and bigger potbelly. Surely, theyve not been diligent in their sworn official responsibilities. This is indeed a New Era and our Captain is Seyi Makinde.
