4 th September 2013 Chamber of Commerce & Industry Jammu - TopicsExpress

4 th September 2013 Chamber of Commerce & Industry Jammu expresses serious concern on the surveys and raids conducted by the Income Tax authorities in the business premises and the residences of some reputed businessmen doing their business for generations. While the Chamber does not want to create hurdles in the smooth conduct of official duty of the Income Tax authorities but highly resents the way in which the surveys and raids were conducted. The latest statistics issued by the Income Tax authorities confirm our belief that Jammu is contributing considerably to the government exchequer in the shape of advance tax and regular Income tax but the Income Tax authorities instead of appreciating this gesture of the trading community resort to undue surveys and raids. A team of 200 persons dawned the city markets in about 50 vehicles creating fear-psychosis amongst the business community who were about to open their commercial establishments. Chamber is constrained to say that the government at its will conducts surveys but fails to address the grievances of those who suffered at the hands of lawlessness at Kishtwar. In society all these have to be viewed simultaneously. The state of J&K is experiencing tension on the borders. Infiltration is at its worst. Under such conditions government should exercise restraint and try to generate confidence amongst people and seek the help of Chamber in urgent situations and should not disturb the peace in the region and instead facilitate and encourage the trading community to obey the rule of law. If all this goes on business community of the region will be compelled to come on the streets. It is no way to keep the weapon of law at the throat of somebody and get the forced surrender. Business is an occupation full of risks and involves many hazards and businessman earns by the dint of his hard work. They are to be facilitated. On receiving the information about these surveys and raids being conducted in the premises of some reputed business houses as well as their residences, Sh. Y.V. Sharma, President Chamber of Commerce & Industry alongwith the team of the Office Bearers comprising of Sh. Sham Lal Langer, Sr. Vice President, Sh. Arun Gupta, Secretary General, Sh. Deepak Aggarwal, Secretary visited the premises of the traders to reassure the traders that Chamber solidly stands behind them and also ensure that no undue harassment is given to the assesses whose business premises were being surveyed and raided.
