4 years ago, one of my BFFs was diagnosed w/ metastatic breast cancer. (Original breast cancer diagnosis was 2006). 2008 Cheryl Smith was now an official survivor & found the Lanesville 4k race & loved it. And since it was one of the only races not organized by the Y, she could actually participate! (At the time, the Y was nearly the only organization putting races on, which meant we always had to work them) Cheryl ran that race for 2 years, but unfortunately she had her re diagnosis March/April of 2010. The cancer this time was in her lungs, liver & bones. Me, the person who HATES running (and this is well documented since high school, right Karen Bergquist) told her I would run that 4k for her that year, and every year until she could do it again. That race is no longer, but Cheryls fight is still continuing!!! Cheryls last scans were not as great as we had hoped and her treatment will change a bit (which is very common) but if Cheryl can keep on fighting this, I can waddle my way through 12.1 miles and raise some money to help fight the good fight. I have a running partner, Barbara Berry who will also be doing the race and a 4 year old coach that yells from his bike to run faster! He knows we are raising money to help Auntie Cheryls bones get stronger. So please support me & Barb and really support Cheryl by donating any amount you can!!
