450 days ago Carrie sat by my side as the doctor confirmed what we had suspected for almost two months…I had lung cancer. It was such a shock to hear “Stage IV Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer” and know they weren’t only talking TO me, but ABOUT me! (Only 1.3% of all lung cancer cases are people between the ages of 34-39!) We left the doctor’s office in shock and awe. I had bitterness and anger in my heart. We went to pick up Jocelyn from school to tell her the news. Fast forward 146 very long, sometimes hard, always trying, and mentally agonizing days later to when Dr. Mayer told me that the latest C/T scan showed that I was cancer free!!! OMG, what?! Now what? I continued with maintenance treatments as a precaution. Now I can gratefully say that I have been in remission for 304 days…that’s 10 months…TODAY! Statistically speaking the median survival rate is 8 months from diagnosis. I feel so blessed to have surpassed that statistic and plan to continue to do so! My moods have become more stable, my mind is clearer, and I want to do more than just work, sleep, and rest. I couldn’t have made it this far without all of you. Your prayers, help, hope, kind words, love, and faith has brought me this far and for that, you have my utmost gratitude! Thank you for being there through all of my highs and lows and in-betweens.
