50thAnniversary Civil Rights March on Washington, DC What will - TopicsExpress

50thAnniversary Civil Rights March on Washington, DC What will it take for YOU to stand up for your own democracy?” We have already experienced overwhelming reasons for alarm and concern for our democracy. On June 25th, 2013, the SCOTUS released its decision in Shelby County, Alabama, et al v. Eric Holder, et al, marking a dark day for all of us. The decision fundamentally changed the face of voting in the United States and the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965 was gutted. The list of states and localities with a history of illegal voting practices was struck. Those jurisdictions are now permitted to change voting practices without prior approval by the Justice Department. The list of the discriminatory states and localities are now free to enact laws that can infringe upon voting rights and disenfranchise voters. Nine states and scores of counties and municipalities have been released from preclearance approvals. And the result? A fast resumption by certain of them to impose strict voter I.D. requirements, cuts in the time the polls are open, elimination of Sunday voter times, and much more. THERE TRULY IS NO TIME TO WASTE! Join with us for an organizational gathering to consolidate our efforts, strengths, knowledge, expertise, and passion for democracy. In solidarity with the scheduled August 24, 2013 MARCH ON WASHINGTON D.C., we will be planning our own MARCH ON L.A. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Word Empowerment Ministries 8950 S. Western Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90047 Kindly RSVP to deborahfavorite@yahoo or call (310) 709-1698.
