5th J&K State Shooting Championship 2013 declared open Rana for adequate infrastructural back up to promote shooting sports JAMMU SEPTEMBER 10- Saying that shooting sport is picking up in a big way, Provincial President National Conference Mr Devender Singh Rana on Tuesday called for giving this adventure game a big fillip in Jammu and Kashmir. “For this purpose, it is imperative to have adequate infrastructure and good back up for training the budding shooters”, Mr Rana said while declaring open the 5th J&K State Shooting Championship 2013 here this afternoon. The shooting championship is being held at the shooting range of the Delhi Public School, Jammu in collaboration with J&K Rifle Association. The Provincial President referred to the upcoming shooting range in Nagrota and stressed the need for speeding up its work in order to facilitate the youngsters trying their luck with the sport. He said that the state government has already taken several initiatives to give a big boost to sports including shooting. He made a particular mention of the keenness being evinced by the Chief Minister for promotion of sports in the State and said that appreciating the necessity of necessary infrastructural facilities for shooting, Mr Omar Abdullah approved a range for Nagrota, the first ever in the state, which will soon become venue for high profile national events. Mr Rana expressed satisfaction over the performance of shooters in various national and international events and hoped that the youth in Jammu and Kashmir will take inspiration and prepare to compete. There is no dearth of talent but the only pre-requisite is to identify and polish it on a mega scale, he added. Wishing the shooters good luck, he said the adventure sport, once a domain of royals, is drawing the attention of enterprising youth in urban and rural areas. He wished the participants success. In all around 200 shooters drawn from all the districts and clubs affiliated with the Jammu and Kashmir Rifle Association, which includes Samba, Kathua, Udhampur and Jammu district Rifle association, J&K Police shooting club, National Cadet Corps Shooting Club, Ace of Spades shooting club, Rajouri, KV Sunjwan Shooting club, Delhi Public School shooting club, ten district shooting clubs of J&K police are participating in the four day competition. He also congratulated the management and staff of the DPS, Jammu for holding the championship. Those who were present were MLA Poonch Ajaz Jan, Dr. D. Joshep Addl. Director DPS, Jammu , S. Sonar, Principal DPS, Jammu Sr. Vice President J&K Rifle Association Kuldeep Singh Jamwal, Vice Presidents Sohal Lal, Sanam Soni, Taranjeet Singh Tony, General Secretary Sudhir Kumar, Treasurer Sharat Chander Singh, Col Sukhbir Singh, S. Suminder Singh and other members of the Association. J&K Kashmir Rifle Association came into existence in the year 2005 and in less than 8 years the shooters of the state have won 18 medals at national level events. In addition, 22 shooters have qualified for the forthcoming national level completions and national games to be held at Kerla.
