6 tips for checking your truck’s air brake system 1) Look for common problems (check brake drums, shoes, pads, and compressor drive belt) 2) Review the last inspection report (maybe a previous problem was noted still affecting the tractor trailer) 3) Know the proper pressure (when starting the vehicle pressure should increase from 50-90 pounds per square inch within 3 minutes 4) Confirm the condition of all controls (Check that each brake system component works properly) 5) Check the brake “supply chain” (this includes components that supply function to the brake system. ie brake lines, pressure hoses, brake lights and marker lights) 6) Don’t neglect the parking brake (test the brake by allowing the vehicle to roll forward slowly then apply the parking brake)
