9/29 - 10/3/14: A good week. The guys from A shift invited Matt and Joel to Station 9 on Wednesday to have lunch and let Matt see all the renovations. He was just amazed by how everything looked. Joel was amazed by the fact that when Matt is around his brothers he seems so much more focused and articulate. Its the same thing that Hillary and I witnessed last Sunday when we listened to Matt talk to all the guys on the phone. His aphasia almost completely disappears and his short-term memory seems better also. Not quite sure what it is - maybe just an innate happiness about being with such great friends and being back in his element, and that releases endorphins that help him in his healing. This, of course is just my medical opinion - LOL - but there is definitely something that happens. Maybe its all just part of Gods ongoing miracles in Matts recovery. He has come a long way just this week with his walking, balance, and stamina. Today he was able to walk 3/4 of a mile around the neighborhood, without stopping. This was immediately after he finished exercising and working out with weights. Later on today, he did almost 1/2 mile on the treadmill. He seems really determined to work hard to get better. Being at the station on Wednesday got him very pumped up to work really hard at his recovery and try to get back to work. He had several therapy sessions this week and his therapists seem pleased with his progress. His PT said that in a couple of weeks Matt will be ready to go to a gym and work out. Already Joel is increasing his weights here at home. Things are getting too easy for him. :). His right side is much stronger than it was. The right side of his face is moving more, and he seems to be getting feeling back on that side. He goes for his first eye appointment next Monday; so hopefully we will get a better idea of what is going on with the vision in that eye. He had a hearing test on Monday, and the audiologist declared his hearing perfect. I always did say that kid could hear through walls! ;) He also went to Hillarys house twice this week, and she took him to get a professional haircut. Matt loves being around people. He loves getting out and having people come visit. Although he has a hard time remembering people right now, he doesnt let that upset him or mitigate his enjoyment of others company. Its comforting to see that he is definitely still Matt - liking to tease and to laugh. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and we thank you for your continued prayers. Love, Cheryl & Joel Proverbs 18:24 .........there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
