A 21-year-old Phoenix man was charged with murder after police discovered the body of his 8-months pregnant girlfriend bound with handcuffs and duct tape, and set on fire in the bedroom of the apartment they shared together, according to the probable cause statement. On July 18, police received a 911 call from 21-year-old Dwandarrius J. Robinson reporting a fire at his apartment. Robinson told the 911 dispatcher he was unsure if his pregnant girlfriend, Shaniqua Hall, was inside. When authorities entered the apartment, they said they noticed thick black smoke and flames coming from the bedroom. The body of Shaniqua Hall was found burning and lodged between the wall and bed. Police said she was bound at the feet, and her hands were bound behind her back with silver handcuffs. Her head was also bound with silver duct tape and a strip was placed over her eyes, according to court documents. After discovering the body, police said they found Robinson outside the apartment holding his 2-year-old daughter. During an interview with police, Robinson allegedly told investigators he got off of work at 1 p.m. and went across the street to buy 2 rolls of duct tape for a box project and lighter fluid for a family BBQ planned on Hall’s due date. Authorities said Robinson told them he returned to his apartment to change his clothes before taking his 2-year-old daughter to a neighbor’s house, then to Burger King where they ate lunch. He stated he returned to the apartment and heard the fire alarm going off and saw the front windows were black with smoke, police said. Robinson said he then called 911 and went back to the SUV to wait for police to arrive and ran the air conditioner because it was hot. Robinson said he did not go into the apartment even though he thought the mother of his daughter and unborn child were inside because he feared of being burned and leaving his children orphaned, police said in the probable cause statement. Instead, he said he sat in the air conditioned SUV until police arrived. Court documents show Robinson allegedly told police the duct tape and lighter fluid he purchased prior to Hall’s body being found were in his black New Balance back pack inside the apartment. Authorities seized Robinson’s clothing and cell phone, and police recovered two handcuff keys from his pants pocket. He told authorities he owned the handcuffs because he used to work as a security guard. hlntv/article/2012/07/24/man-accused-setting-pregnant-girlfriend-fire
