A BIT OF JESUS EACH DAY- DAY 91 TEXT: MATTHEW 13: 33-35 PARABLE OF THE YEAST (PART II) The kingdom of heaven is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened" (Revised Standard Version). The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour until all of it was leavened" (New Revised Standard Version). I have decided to quote this passage from two versions of the Bible; one is an old version and the other new. But I prefer the old translation because of how it translates the text. What catches my eye in the Revised Standard Version is the fact that the woman “hid” the leaven or yeast in the dough. I refer to the action in this text as the “silent workings of the yeast.” And that is the nature of the Christian. We don’t need to shout to be heard, a faint whisper will be enough. For those of you who work silently behind the scenes of public recognition without necessarily wanting to jump up stage on the scenes of public recognition, I salute you. The value of our good works is not judged by how much public recognition we get but how much God sees us work silently. Never tire of doing good if no one recognizes what you do, like the ‘silent yeast’ hidden in the dough your influence will be noticed sooner than later.
