A Dangerous “Hero?” Many Christians seem to have a new hero – “American Sniper” Chris Kyle, whose quasi-biopic has been doing some major box office of late. Blogger Ben Corey asks whether this is really the type of idol Christians ought to embrace. “If you completely remove Christianity from the equation and pretend that Jesus never existed, Kyle was a brave man who maybe even was a hero. He helped us slaughter our enemies and kept our oil prices low, and for that, the American Empire thanks him. However, for a Christian, this is not the standard we go by– we are followers of Christ! We should not see a man whose actions should be celebrated or emulated– we should see a man who lived a life that was the complete opposite of the way Jesus lived his.” Thoughts?
