Interpretation involves an attempt to honestly paint a picture out of what is read such that that picture reflects the meaning of the text. If properly undertaken, interpretation brings out the theoretical framework within which the text is situated. To succeed in doing this is to understand the text. Whether you agree with the message conveyed by the meaning or not depends on whether your theoretical perspective corresponds with the theoretical framework of the text or not. Interpretation is, therefore, crucial and critical to understanding. Thus, if you share a common theoretical framework but disagree on or differ in your understanding of a given situation it is only a matter of sweetly comparing notes on the interpretation. For, interpretation is not easily concluded. The best way to avoid controversy with your interpretation is to support your paraphrasing with a direct quote from the text. In that manner, you yourself can see whether you are on point or not. On the other hand, if your theoretical framework conflicts with that of the text then there is no way to resolve differences apart from re-examining the correctness of either framework. Hence, strategies can be agreed on only within the same theoretical system. Patience is all you need to resolve intra-systemic disagreements. Open mindedness is the main requirement here. As for inter-systems disagreements, forging a common strategy is not really possible. The effort is not worth the outcome which is sheer waste of time and energy.
