A Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act court here on Thursday sentenced five persons to life imprisonment and awarded double life imprisonment to another one for murdering a Hindu Munnani activist in Madurai in 1994. Hindu Munnani leader Rajagopalan (46) was murdered by an armed gang at his residence on October 10, 1994. Shahul Hameed of Coimbatore, Mohamed Suber of Goundampalayam in Coimbatore, Zakhir Hussain of Coimbaore, Seeni Naina Mohamed of East Veli Street, Madurai, Abdul Azeez of Thentral Nagar in Madurai and Raja Hussain of Nellpettai in Madurai were arrested. The case was later transferred to the CB-CID and was heard at Chennai City Civil Court after it was registered under the provisions of the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act. Principal Sessions Judge Vijayaraghavan, after examining 74 document evidences, 13 material evidences and 32 prosecution witnesses, awarded life imprisonment to Shahul Hameed, Mohamed Suber, Zakhir Hussain, Abdul Azeez and Raja Hussain and imposed a fine of Rs.10,000 each on them and double life imprisonment to Seeni Naina Mohamed, which will run concurrently. Of the six accused, Shahul Hameed, Mohamed Suber, Zakhir Hussain and Abdul Azeez have been convicted in the infamous Coimbatore blast case, a twin murder case at Dindigul and also in the murder of Hindu Munnani activist in Coimbatore.
