A bit of history. Every artist has it’s own musical influences and heroes. Chuito El de Bayamón with his Jibaro music, the music from the mountains of Puerto Rico was Hector Lavoe’s major influence since he was a kid -check out Héctor’s “Que bién te ves” dedícated to Chuito- and his first heroe before moving to New York City where he then became everybody’s favorite and our heroe. In this video you will notice Chuito had this coolness and elegance and perfect pitch, and you could understand every single word he says just like Héctor did. The non-spanish speaking friends will have to trust me on this one. And just like Héctor, he had a great sense of humor he then utilize in his music. -Check out his “La Vieja Voladora”- . Also just like Héctor, Chuito always made sure everybody knew where he came from, letting others know the inmense pride he felt about his Puerto Rican roots. Finally check out the late great Maso Rivera, considered by many a musical genius of his time, playing the Puerto Rican Cuatro, a ten string guitar, symbol of Puerto Rican culture and our National Musical Instrument. Yomo Toro considered Maso Rivera his biggest and first influence and looked up to him as a father figure. That combination of musical greatness and influences from the past explains not only the monumental success they had when they recorded the Christmas album “Asalto Navideño Vol. 1 and 2” , a classic of the great Latin American song book with the great Willie Colón, but also the huge success they achieved in their own separate careers. Merry X-mas and a very Happy New Año.... https://youtube/watch?v=7_dbjlRO4Jo
