A conversation between Wala Naa Sidiki Bomi II and the then Head of State, Col. Acheampong on 25th March 1975. Culled from BOB-MILLIAR, (2011) ******************************************************************************************* Ask his Excellency whether he knows what a chimpanzee is. He says, yes, What about a monkey? Acheampong answered, yes. Naa Sidiki then said: both animals like corn very much. So if you send corn through a chimpanzee to a monkey, will the monkey get it? Acheampong immediately said no, he was sure the corn will not get to the monkey. Naa Sidiki then said, we [upper westerners] want development, the people of Bolga [upper easterners] also want development. You have given development to the people of Bolga to bring to us, do you think it will reach us? If you like us give us our own region, no matter how small, whatever you have give it to us and it would be of more benefit to us than giving us development through Bolga. JJ Rawlings on 14 January 1983 honoured this request. Read ‘TE NYƆGEYƐNG GBENGBENG!’ (‘WE ARE HOLDING THE UMBRELLA VERY TIGHT!’) to understand why Upper West Region consistently delivers the votes to the NDC. I enjoyed reading the piece!
