A copy and paste from a dear friend, Cooky Oberg: Jack Roady is a GREAT district attorney and it really ticked me off when I got a poisonous misleading mailing yesterday from his opponent. Heres how he REALLY is -- get off your duff and VOTE, so we dont get his opponent in office due to low turnout. Your vote MATTERS: I think Jack Roady has set a new standard of excellence for Galveston County public service, and I’m disgusted that he is receiving some poisonous, distorted negative campaigning from his under-qualified opponent. Roady been a terrific district attorney – not afraid to take on the potential corruption of other public officials and resistant to any meddling with his ability to hire the best and the brightest for his office. He is meticulous in all things ethical, appointing special prosecutors to avoid conflicts of interest, and established a Public Integrity Section in his office to investigate and prosecute offenses committed by public officials. He has shown tireless efficiency in seeking justice against those who commit crimes in Galveston County. As a result, he has a higher conviction rate of criminals and lower dismissal rate than his predecessor. Though his opponent attempted to smear his record in a recent mass-mailing, Roady has an enviable record in convictions. If one bothers to consult the public record, Roady has increased the average jury trial conviction rate by 16% for felonies and by more than 500% --from 4% to 63%! -- for misdemeanors, compared to the previous administration. That’s something. His opponent, Phillip Morris, is reduced to issuing a poisonous, distorted mass-mailing and acid negative campaigning because he is, quite frankly, under-qualified for the job of District Attorney. He has a conspicuous lack of prosecutorial experience – essential if one wants to lead and direct Galveston County’s prosecution of criminals. No mention is made of integrity either in the mailing. Negative campaigning is a disgusting tactic. Candidates resort to it when they lack qualifications, don’t have a clean record, and have no vision of future. They have no concept of how to build something more constructive than the candidate they are running against – so they spend time spewing falsehoods and smears instead. Aren’t we thoroughly tired of that kind of politician? Jack Roady especially does not deserve this type of smear tactic. Roady’s mistakes have been few, and his detractors are the enemies of any honest man: People who are uncomfortable with the idea of ethical high standards in government, and those who do not want their actions questioned and scrutinized. Criminals dislike him too, since he has streamlined his office, has built an effective team, and has forged a new shiny metal for the anvil of justice in our county. Roady is a really exceptional public servant, well worth many more terms in office, for those interested in real justice in our county. So for those who haven’t voted, please get off your duffs and VOTE FOR JACK! We would all hate to see the wrong people get in office due to voter apathy and laziness. That sure has happened too often in the past.
