A fascinating article. I feel it is less about the amount of intelligence and more about what were doing with the mind to make it expand. Folks who have demanding jobs that require early bedtimes and early rising definitely do not have as much free time to expand their mind on topics outside their demanding lives. For the average hardworking person, there is simply no time or energy left over at the end of the day. I know for me, when I am overworked or stressed, my ability to tap in and write is incredibly dampened. Interestingly enough, I would say that 90% of all my studies and writing have occurred at night throughout my life. Even as a teen, I would stay up late reading books about philosophy, psychology, and spirituality -- while during the day I just did what I had to do until I could tap in again during the night. Granted, the reverse is also true for folks who have a lot of free time yet still do not use it to expand their minds. So its a toss up. I think overall that the nightly atmosphere is metaphoric for the subconscious mind, while the daytime atmosphere represents the conscious mind. When we dont take time to explore our subconscious mind and overcome our fears, we certainly restrict ourselves in life. ----- A fun twist on the early bird analogy: The early bird may get the worm, but the night owl gets the whole jar. While the early risers may get up to see the first worm crawl its way to the wet surface, the night owl gets to them before they burrow under. Getting up early is most definitely proactive, but staying up late is just as fruitful. Those who stay up get hours ahead, rather than the one or two an early riser gains. There are things to be explored at night that early risers will never experience. There are ideas formulated and tasks completed that early risers never get to finish. Because at night, there is dawn and a new day in front of you. But by morning, there’s just the bleakness of night and the daunting end of another day.
