For most of the trip, its pretty shallow, stick your paddle in and youll feel the bottom except in the very centre of the channel. 2. The water is salty like the sea, youll know because you get salt residue on your paddle and boat. 3. There is tons of bird life on the river, especially on the expansive mud flats. 4. You dont have to paddle much, the current does most of the work for you. 5. The water is surprisingly predictable. There are no whirlpools or swirling under currents, just a river flowing towards the sea at about 2-3mph.
