A few weeks ago, I realized I was having a lot of difficulty - TopicsExpress

A few weeks ago, I realized I was having a lot of difficulty finishing my book revisions in part because I had over 400 post-it notes in front of me, my editors letter, her notes, copies of our online exchanges about the book, and the draft that included the in-manuscript notes from herself and my publisher — and it was all making me crazy. So I made a deliberate effort to clear ALL of that stuff off of my desk, and it helped. Then, I was dealing with the fact I had multiple drafts — some extreme, some minor — that I kept referencing, and that fact was also slowing me down, until just a few days ago, when I was able to mentally set them aside. Then today it all took a quantum leap forward, when I came in, told my editor and publisher theyd be getting a surprise email after lunch, and then my computer crashed. When I restarted it, it wouldnt recognize the jump drive where I have all the files. Nor would my brothers computer. And after a bunch of finagling, we finally got the computers to acknowledge the drive — which was corrupted. Every file. The only draft I have left is the working one, the final one, that Word automatically saved. There ARE some other backup versions (in other places), but only one fairly recent version other than this one, which has had a lot of work done since last week. Im calling this one an immediate karmic payoff. No other way to describe it. Just sent a big chunk of it to my editor, and now Im going to play videogames. Because karma. And leisure. And no stress.
