A few years ago, a first year teacher told me that he/she was against the teachers union because All they do is protect bad teachers. We talked and the individual added they had been to a union meeting and the entire agenda was on How we can keep our job and not do any work.. Ive been in AFT for 27 years and been to over a hundred meetings and never recall any discussions like that. In any event, the person did not know that AFT produces several publications for teachers. The various anti-union movies and organizations are silent on the fact that AFT produces several magazines and educational journals for teachers. Here is one. This is the AFT that the anti-union wing does not talk about. If you study the history of African Americans in public education, it was only because of pressure from the teachers union that school districts began hiring black teachers.
