A good kind of debt Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellow man has fulfilled the law. -Romans 13:8 Bill paying is rarely a pleasant experience, but when its over, there is a sense of relief that the account has been settled. The cosmic balances are even...payment has been made for services rendered...no obligation remains (at least until next month). There is often that same sense of even Steven with those around us. Weve offered the obligatory, good morning or how ya doin? or perhaps taken it to the next level, with a pat on the back or a handshake. We havent hurt them in any way or asked for anything, nor they, us, so that is the end of the matter. The account between us is at zero. Christians however, have an obligation to those we come in contact with. It is a never-ending debt that we owe and can never be paid off. We owe it continually, day in and day out, in season and out of season. We owe it to our friends, families, acquaintances, neighbors, and even our enemies. It is not a chore, but a joy. The source is not our own sense of good-will, but rather the Holy Spirit of God that empowers us, so the fund can never be depleted. God, help us to not be delinquent in the debts that we owe.
