A landmark effort by the Indian state of Karnataka to connect - TopicsExpress

A landmark effort by the Indian state of Karnataka to connect isolated protected forests could lead to the building of Asias largest unbroken forest, writes Jay Mazoomdaar. Its been all about connecting the green dots. Since 2012, the southern state of Karnataka has declared nearly 2,600 sq km (1,000 sq miles) of forests as protected areas, linking a series of national parks, tiger reserves and sanctuaries. Protected areas cover nearly 5% of Indias land mass and come under strict legal protection that makes conversion of land for non-forestry purposes difficult. Tiger reserves and national parks do not allow human settlements.
