A letter I set in to the papers about the comments Cheshire East - TopicsExpress

A letter I set in to the papers about the comments Cheshire East counciller Michael Jones had made over local plans and transient Traveller site to be aimed at Middlewich; We may be victim of our success One thing is sure and that is we are victim of the same rhetoric that people have had to endure for a while now. The local plan has been suspended. So we are victims of the Cheshire East councils’ failure to do the job they were elected to do. The difference is if the people like us were put in charge of a task such as this in our places of work and failed to do what we were supposed to do in such a mammoth way we would be looking at disciplinary action or even being sacked, this does not seem to be an option in this case. “We have saved Alderley park...” this is a fantastic thing and something I support but I would also like to see things saved elsewhere in Cheshire East, especially in the more working class parts such as Crewe where their heritage and beautiful old buildings are targeted regularly. Then we are diverted from the subject in a kin to that of the 80s Conservative government. Look unemployment is below 3% in Crewe that rings with closing industries down in the bucket load and instead of putting people on the dole putting them on disability benefit so they don’t show up on unemployment figures. The people of Crewe know they are not at an unemployment rate of 3%, this would probably be only achievable if Crewe works had not been taken apart after privatisation and the work sent elsewhere. Zero hour contracts or agency work that takes away most of a person’s working rights and provides no real security is not an effective way to reduce unemployment and nether is the workfare scheme. Workfare which is work but not fair, it is when a person on job seekers allowance cannot get off it because no real jobs are being created, are sent to work for a company for no extra money. This creates two questions. If a company (and these are big name companies taking advantage of this as well) needs extra staff why not employ more people instead of using what is essentially slave labour? And why is the government and councils allowing companies to pay nothing to someone working at their company and let the tax payer pick up the bill which isn’t even paying them minimum wage? The real answer I am sure is somewhere in the region of to lower unemployment figures (because people are taken off this statistic when they are put on workfare even though they still receive job seekers allowance) and to help businesses make more profit. “….reducing the negative impact on residents and local businesses….” Is something that everyone wants to achieve especially in concern with illegal encampments but this appears to be the negative impact on some selected residents and business perhaps local to an undisclosed place and and not necessarily small business. If the issue is to the scale it is being made out to be and another Travellers site is required, bearing in mind there are sites in Middlewich already one on Booth lane and on Warmingham lane then maybe extra ones should be put in a number of locations. When looking at a map of Cheshire East I have spotted a great number of perfect places for a Gypsy and Traveller sites that have plenty of green land for their horses and farming methods, which would also culturally enrich the surrounding towns and bring them increased revenue to their local businesses some of which seem very isolated. As the common phrase goes share the wealth. Daniel Robinson Labour candidate for Middlewich
