A letter to all Parents of St Peters JFC players Each year our club goes to great lengths and considerable expense to ensure that we have coaches for each of our teams. Each coach selected is required to complete the Level 1 AFL Coaching Accreditation prior to commencing their role as the coach of your child’s team. The training and education each of our coaches undertakes through the accreditation process equips them to communicate, mentor, and guide your children in the most effective manner possible. It is a specialist role. As parents, we also play a specialist role. We provide our children with the opportunity to play junior football. We drive them to their games, we pay for their registration fees, new boots, socks, mouthguards, etc. We give them the encouragement and confidence to participate. We also deal with the emotions (highs and lows) that come with each game of football that our children play. We are pivotal to our children’s continued involvement in junior football. We, however, are not coaches. The coaches are the most qualified and skilled people to address the teams on game day. They also happen to be the only ones with the authority to address our children and their team on game day. They have developed specific plans for our children and their teams. The coaches’ plans are developed with the knowledge and resources they have acquired through their official accreditation and training. As parents we need to focus on our own specialist role. The role of the supporter, the encourager, the listener, the car driver. In fact, the time we spend with our children in the car for the ride home after the game is more important than many of us realise. Consider the article below: couriermail.au/news/the-real-reason-why-our-kids-quit-sport/story-e6frerdf-1226645601355 Our Football Department, our Committee, and I as President am committed to our specialist role, which is to ensure our boys and girls have the most positive and enjoyable experience possible whilst playing football with St Peters JFC, regardless of the weekly result. Our coaches are committed to their specialist role. I ask that each of you as parents be committed to your specialist role. The role of the person who loves watching their child play football, regardless of the weekly result. Have a great time this weekend, watching your child play football. And thanks for giving them the opportunity. Best regards Jay Wardlaw President St Peters Junior Football Club
