A little bit of a scare when Kevin had a close encounter with a log jam the other day on the Upper Upper Cispus. Lessons to be learned: Never Get Complacent. When no one knows the run always have a back up eddy before committing. If it looks like theres wood assume theres wood. Speak up if something doesnt look right. Always have quick access to your rope and pin kit. Wood can be anywhere. Even in the smallest rapids wood can kill you or your buddies in a heartbeat. This was a close call, and Kevin was between his boat and the bottom of the river. Had he been on his back deck he wouldnt have been able to get his grab loop. Not included in this video is his boat getting submerged quickly after he got out and we could not recover it. Part of it was our fault, but it goes to show that if Kevin been where his boat ended up, we would have be dealing with a disaster. It turned out to be a good day on the river, and it spiked up from 700 to 900 on the gauge while we were on it. Shortly after this clip an incoming creek was flashing and added 100-150 more CFS, and changed the color of the river from blue silt to a brown mud flow. Behemoth gorge and the drop proper was great! I cant wait to go back in there again!
