A little late but... Last months minutes from the SWNMBC..will work to be more timely next month!! Minutes Southwest New Mexico Breastfeeding Council Noon, Friday, June 20, 2014 GRMC Board Room Present: Melissa & Alejandro, Laura & Juliette, Mae & Azra, Cammie, Shauna, Chris, Naomi & Max, Gabe & Ben Ongoing business: 1. Community priorities project-discussed possible projects related to identified issues* a) Approval to design a card for members to pass out to mothers nursing in public b) Business Case for Breastfeeding-module not yet located (Note: Chris found Business Case since this meeting and will bring it to July meeting for review) (see World Breastfeeding Week plan below) 2. Treasurer Report-no changes $132.21 3. Breastfeeding to the Blues-there were two small groups that took photos, but it was recommended that the location be better designated and communicated! Chris committed to submit the photos and an article about breastfeeding in public to the newspapers (Note: Chris has not been able to confirm identification of everyone pictured, nor to get signed consents for photos to be used…article and photos on hold) 4. Review of information for state web site-all present encouraged to check out the site and get feedback to Chris (she will send updates as appropriate) 5. Breastfeeding Celebration July 19-Thank You Mae for photographing! 6. Grant Co calendar-this idea tabled, but those interested will submit photos for state calendar 7. Breast Hats-Cammie reported that a GRMC Auxiliary member knitted a hat and will make more! Laura agreed to make more (Note: Chris has contacted Suzi Calhoun of Yada Yada Yarn who has the pattern and knows knitters who can also make hats) New business: 1. Emails vs Facebook –Members were asked about interest in Facebook communication. The responses indicated that some members would prefer this over emails. Melissa agrees to have her Grant County, NM Community Breastfeeding Support Facebook page state “This is a closed group where our community can find support, post articles of interest, discuss and find information about breastfeeding. Information about local events and efforts to support breastfeeding will also be posted here. “ So…she will post minutes and other goings on from our meetings for those who prefer Facebook (but it will not replace emails)! Thank you Melissa! 2. World Breastfeeding Week a) Members present agreed that they could write a personal experience related to work, school and/or breastfeeding in public to submit to papers, websites (NMBTF & GRMC), Facebook (Melissa’s). b) Latch On-Saturday, August 2nd is one of 2 dates designated for a national “Latch On” (between 9:30-12) we have proposed to invite breastfeeding mothers (and other breastfeeding advocates) to a Latch On at the public library on this date. Melissa offered to contact the library to confirm that this would be possible. (Note: Mary and Chris later discussed the possibility of applying for the state WBW grant money [$100] to cover costs for the cards, hats, printing photo, light refreshments, and advertising) i) Photo opportunity ii) Pass out the Breastfeeding in Public Cards iii) Light refreshments iv) Distribute breast hats to all who attend Next Meeting Friday, July 18 at Noon in Conference Room *Community priorities (from 2014 survey) Major challenges: 1. return to work 2. return to school 3. breastfeeding in public Addressing challenges: 1.
