A little over 72 hours and the High Holy Day Season will be upon us. Doesnt sound like a lot of time does it? In the hectic pace of the season, do not neglect the most important relationship you have - not with your spouse, your children, your friends but with ADONAI. Spend time with Him, get to know Him. But remember He speaks in faint whisper. You have so many competing sounds, a cacophony of noises going on around you that drown Him out. Find some quiet time and Shabbos and listen. You will be amazed what you hear. Our introspection at this season can have great spiritual impact, even transforming our lives, but for that to happen, we need an inner gaze that is deep and honest. Thats where cheshbon ha-nefesh comes in. Although the term gets used to describe any kind of inner stock-taking, there is a way to do this personal accounting that is systematic, thorough and very effective. Done like that, it provides clear knowledge of the forces and contours of your own inner landscape In short... its up to you. Destruction- It was during the month of Av that the walls of the Temple were breached. Although the Temple does not fully fall until the month of Av, we meditate on the process and beginnings of disintegration. Think about all the losses you experienced in your past year. What have you lost? Whom have you lost? How you are dealing with these losses?
