A poem for a place IN MEMORY STILL The beauty, the peace that bestows this place Does no one understand why they cry for this land Spiritual, caring is all that they have For what is to them should be sacred to all It is said that there is no more a tree From all that is life came to be A promise to them by the white man was broken About what has been spoken of the memories of all Good people you see They worshiped this place not in a misguided way But,they thought it a gift from the Creator above Wȯablakela oyȧs iƞ ėl wa ni ta anpėtu wašte Peace to you and to you good day To the spirit above is what they all say For to them is all sacred in the hills that are black And still memories and meaning no man can take back. My poem of what the Black Hills mean to the OGLALA SIOUX. Written by Richard Amerine on this day of JULY, 15th, 2013
