A priests day: 6:00 a Cup of Tea. 7:30 - meet with the men of the parish to kick off the new mens group--Fellowship of St Joseph. Breakfast and a 45 minute talk on St Joseph. Home and try to ponder the gospel and hope that a homily will appear from somewhere. Do some background reading. Think. Phone call to go administer the last rites. Arrange to go at two. Ponder the homily some more. Another phone call. A convert friend is visiting. Go and administer last rites. Its very dear. Family all gathered. All Catholics except for the Baptist nurse and she prays with us too. Anointing, Viaticum, Commend the dying. Meet up with convert and his beautiful young family. The homily is coming into focus. Over the parish for confessions at 4:00. No one is there. Praying the rosary for the dying woman. Doze off in the chair. The door opens and the confessions begin. The confessions ease off. The homily has appeared. Vigil Mass at 5:15. Home by 7:00. Supper and write a blog post. Then at 8:00 the widower calls. The old woman passed at 4pm. It was just when I was praying the rosary for her in the confessional. I cant think of a better life than to be a priest.
