A salute to a Huck’s Hero, Lloyd Cates of Smithville, Texas. Way back in 1970, he was fighting in Vietnam alongside his buddy Frank Cybulski. After the battle, when Frank had gone home, Lloyd found Frank’s prized hunting knife that his parents had given him. For years, he kept the knife polished and tried to track down his former comrade, with no luck. Finally, technology caught up, and he located Frank’s ex-wife through Facebook. Frank said it took him about 10 minutes to work up the nerve to open the book and look at that knife. But now that he finally has it, he plans to give it up again. He says he’s going to walk through the Vietnam Memorial with his two-year-old grandson, and leave the knife there. The knife that finally made it home will be forever among all his comrades who didn’t.
