A simple plea for a departed loved one to return, "Sunny" saves - TopicsExpress

A simple plea for a departed loved one to return, "Sunny" saves its sting for the final verse where Morrissey reveals his sympathy and concern for a heroin addict, offering a graphic description of shooting up using a belt as a tourniquet. Inevitably, this would invite wild theorising as to the extent of autobiography in the lyrics and, if so, the identity of the real "Sunny" and the nature of their relationship with Morrissey. Taken from a third person perspective, "Sunny" could also be translated as a revisited "Picadilly Palare", the emphasis now shifted to the anxious parents fretting over their runaway son.
