A six-month investigation by The Associated Press dived deeply into the finances of LGBT Americans. The results: decades of societal and employment discrimination, lower wages, for gay men the AIDS Crisis, has created an entire generation of LGBT Americans not prepared at all for retirement. Looking at Federal Reserve data, LGBT individuals had between 30 to 50 percent less saved for retirement than their straight counterparts. Social Security, the bedrock of all seniors financial planning, remains a legal minefield that often leaves widows and widowers without the financial resources they need. In a sad irony, many of the aging pioneers of gay rights are too old to reap the retirement benefits from the marriage laws they championed. Please read and share.
