A stern, almost angry President Obama called on American allies and those around the world to extract this cancer called the Islamic State after the terrorist group brutally beheaded New Hampshire journalist James Foley, a murder that Obama said has appalled the entire world. A group like ISIL has no place in the 21st Century, Obama said in an address from Marthas Vineyard, where hes now made three addresses since starting his vacation there last week. The usually measured Commander in Chief denounced the extremist group for what he called cowardly acts of violence, including the murder of of Muslims by the thousands, Christians and others. Their ideology is bankrupt. They may claim out of expediency that they are at war with the United States and the west. But they terrorize their neighbors. ... There has to be a common effort to extract this cancer so it does not spread, Obama said. Foley, who went missing in Syria on November 2012, was killed in response to U.S. airstrikes in Iraq, the group claimed in a video. Obama, speaking publicly for the first time in response to the gruesome footage, said the U.S. will continue to do what we must do to protect our people. When people harm Americans anywhere, we do what is necessary to see that justice is done, said Obama, who praised Foley, 40, for his bravery to report in some of the worlds most conflict-ridden places. Jim was taken from us in an act of violence that shocks the conscience of the entire world, the president said, adding that he earlier spoke with Foleys parents, John and Diane, and told them we are all heart-broken for their loss and join them in honoring Jim and all that he did. Jims life stands in stark contrast to his killers, Obama said. They abduct women and children and subject them to torture an rape. .... No just god would stand for what they did yesterday and what they do every single day.
