A teacher asked her class for the meaning of “loving kindness.” One student jumped up and declared, “If I was hungry and someone gave me a piece of bread, that would be a kindness. But if they put a little jam on it, that would be loving kindness.” I loved Moms homemade rolls. Her rolls were so good most of the time I would eat them without any butter or jelly. However, with some of Pops homemade jelly It made something wonderful just a little sweeter. Think about God’s LOVING KINDNESS and how sweet it truly is. When it comes to blessing our life, God knows how to spread it on thick. Are we genuinely appreciative of His blessings? In Paul’s letter to Titus he wrote. . . “(4) But when the goodness and LOVING KINDNESS OF GOD OUR SAVIOR appeared, (5) HE SAVED US, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, (6) whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, (7) so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to THE HOPE OF ETERNAL LIFE.” (Titus 3:4-7 ESV) God’s loving kindness can be enjoyed and savored presently. However, it is not merely relative to this life and its needs, but to eternity. In Christ we have the blessing of the “BREAD OF LIFE” (John 6:33 & 35) to sustain us, sweetened with the promise of ETERNAL LIFE to come. As yeast in the bread will cause it to rise, having Christ in us assures us of being raised up on the last day. (John 6:40) Of all the delicacies that might be set before us in this world, there is nothing that will nourish and satisfy the soul like that which God has provided. Thinking of life in Christ now and the eternity to come, may we appreciate how sweet it all really is!
