“A test on creativity” is an oxymoron is for at least 3 - TopicsExpress

“A test on creativity” is an oxymoron is for at least 3 reasons. First, creativity is acting and thinking out-of-box and transcending the given. Because of that, by the definition, it cannot be foreseen in advance (partially or fully). Thus, a tester cannot define in advance creative options for solving a certain test problem. Second, creativity is a social phenomenon that requires creativity in recognizing creativity. In other words, creativity requires at least two creative people — not one: one who makes a bet for creativity and another one who recognizes this bet as being creative. Thus, for testing creativity, the tester needs to be creative. But in any case, a test on creativity is not a test of one personal but always of, at least, two. Third all existing tests on creativity seem to be on “responsive authorship” — creativity that is provoked in a response to another person’s provocation (i.e., test assignment). It cannot assess “self-generated authorship” — creativity that is self-assigned and involved generating new goals, problems, and values. What do you think?
