A thought from the depths of this tired old mind. If I remember correctly from the history classes offered in various schools located in Leon County, Florida, the citizens of the early United States banded together and defeated invading military forces that were considered to be the best in the world at that point in time. We also managed to defeat the greatest naval force that ever sailed the seas. Later in the life of this great nation its citizens were again asked to band together to help their allies to defeat armies that were intent on ruling the world. Why cant we back away and let the factions that have been at war (for one reason or another) in the middle east defend their beliefs? The U.S. has lost thousands of lives and spent billions upon billions of dollars in a futile attempt to bring peace(?) and/or democracy(?) to countries where the population doesnt seem to have the necessary desire for either. We should have learned from Viet Nam.
