A well known 40 year old shoemaker from Shallcross was arrested at the scene of a robbery. He was accosted by 2 suspects who allegedly robbed him of R700. In the ensuing fight with the robbers, to protect himself (and most likely save his life) and his belongings, he stabbed one of them with an industrial shoe needle (similar to picture), the only item he had to protect himself, whilst the other robber fled the scene and is still at large. A member from the local community described the deceased suspect as a troublesome person who was always drunk and stole from residents. Police arrived and arrested the shoemaker, presumably for murder, and he will soon make his court appearance in the Chatsworth Magistrates Court. SAPS Chatsworth Station Commander, Brigadier Coenraad Marais commended the officers for the successful apprehension of the suspect and stated that the perpetrators of crime will be brought to justice. Now the question I put forward is, was it fair to arrest the shoemaker, who was only defending himself from 2 robbers, for murder? He now has to spend the first of many nights in jail because he fought for his life and won. What are your thoughts?
