A wise mama asks: I have a question about my 8 year old - TopicsExpress

A wise mama asks: I have a question about my 8 year old step-son. I am completely baffled... SS comes home everyday from school STARVING but when I open his lunch box, it is untouched. He refuses to eat his lunch but tells me that it is hard to concentrate in class because hes so hungry during the day. At first, I thought he wasnt eating his lunch because He had an undiagnosed gluten intolerance so I switched everything to gluten free and got a gluten analysis which came back negative. Then I thought it was because of undiagnosed reaction to chemicals or dye so, I stopped getting store bought items like bread and switch to homemade everything, even ice cream and peanut butter. But, nothing changed. Then I thought it might be because he wasnt using enough exercise so, i signed him up for kataté and cross country so he could average 1.5 hours of orginized physical activity per day... But nothing changed. I thought it might be that he is being bullied so I went to the school only to be reassured that there is no bulling. In fact, analysis revealed that hes actually very socially adapt. I am at my wits end with this. Weve tried punitive consequence (ex - confiscating a toy) but that, as you all know, doesnt help, it just makes him angry. Weve tried envolving him in grocery shopping and lunch packing. Foods cut into funny shapes, vibrant colours, joke cards in the lunch box, rewards for eating lunch but still no change. Psychologist says he shows no sign of an eating disorder. Short or going to school and hand feeding him lunch, I have absolutely no clue what to do next... Any suggestions? Thanks
