ABC40 Traffic Alert: Cross St. and Central St. in Springfield SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Motorists traveling near two Springfield roadways next week should expect delays as construction work gets underway. Springfield Water and Sewer Commission spokesperson Joyce Mulvaney says that beginning next week, private contractors working for the commission will undertake two projects in the city to replace water and sewer pipes. Work will be done Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mulvaney notes that no work will be performed on Thursday and Friday of next week, due to the holiday. The two projects are as follows: Cross Street from Willow Street to Main Street TRAFFIC INFO: Main Street at the intersection of Cross Street will be reduced to a single lane with alternating traffic flow. Cross Street will be open to local traffic only. Due to the nature of this work, changes to traffic patterns and traffic delays are expected. Traffic will be managed with posted traffic signs and police details. WORK BEING PERFORMED: The proposed work consists of replacing approximately 400 feet of sewer main pipe. Final paving and site restoration will be completed in the spring of 2015. Central Street from Maple Street to Madison Avenue TRAFFIC INFO: Both lanes of Central Street will remain open while work is ongoing. Due to the nature of this work, changes to traffic patterns and traffic delays are expected. Traffic will be managed with posted signs and police details. WORK BEING PERFORMED: The proposed work consists of replacing approximately 1,000 feet of water main pipe. Final paving and site restoration will be completed in the spring of 2015.
