ABOUT THAT $7000 TAX EXEMPTION FOR SENIORS (letter recd) There is no tax exemption offered by the State of California or County of Riverside for property owners living in a senior development. I believe you are instead referring to the Homeowner’s Exemption which allows any qualifying homeowner, regardless of age, to receive an exemption of $7,000 off their assessed value when the property tax bill is calculated. Per the Assessor’s database, none of the three examples that you cite in your email are currently receiving the $7,000 Homeowner’s Exemption on their assessment. The Homeowner’s Exemption the applicant must own and occupy the property as his/her principal place of residence as of January 1 the year the application is submitted to qualify for that year. The application is signed under penalty of perjury and the applicant must provide their social security number. Please note, the California State Board of Equalization oversees the administration of the exemption and will notify the Assessor’s office if a duplicate exemption for a taxpayer has been discovered in any of the State’s 58 counties. The duplicate exemption is then removed and, if merited, penalty bills are produced for the taxpayer. Sincerely, Mary #757, Senior Appraiser, Public Service Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder
