ADVANCE TO CONTACT: “The Liberation war brought our nation together in trying days and helped bring out the best of its character: patriotism, courage, sacrifice and rising above petty self-interests. A sovereign country was born as a result. Pakistan Army killed and tortured countless unarmed people, destroyed families and the social structures. But that was only how the Liberation War began and not the war in itself. Over the years, our media have largely projected the deaths, rapes and the sufferings of our people, but have not adequately portrayed our resolve to fight, the sacrifices made in order to fight, the training and the creation of liberation forces. The personal and collective sacrifices, the courage with which a peace loving,poetry writing, peasant nation transformed itself into valiant warriors, matched, fought and defeated the mighty Pakistan Army s rarely portrayed correctly and convincingly by our media. We should portray the Liberation War correctly for the future generations. Otherwise, to them it would remain confined to simple pictures of death and horror; confined to defeat, humiliation and pain. One would naturally ask how was it possible to achieve freedom just by suffering and dying in the hands of aggressors. Nazi Germany killed six million Jews in the Second World War. But this inhuman act was not a factor, which led to their eventual defeat. If they killed twelve million other civilians, even that would not have been a material factor for losing the war. The Germans lost war because in the eastern front, the Soviet forces fought tooth and nail and because the allied forces eventually had superior firepower and manpower. The allied forces had to fight for every inch of land to defeat Germany. That is why when we read about world war; it is not only about killing of the Jews and other people, but also about the battles and advances of the allied forces till the final victory. The media portrays the Second World War by showing the rubbles and London and the humiliation of a captive Paris, as well as destruction of Berlin by victorious allied forces. In 1971, Pakistan army was the superior military force. A peace loving unarmed Bengali nation transformed itself into fighters and fought the mighty Pakistan Army. We broke the morale and destroyed the Pakistan army to such an extent that they wanted to surrender almost without a fight when Indian army chipped in the battle. The Indian Army did help us in our fight but the claim that the Pakistan army surrendered en masse just because Indian army came to help us is not true. In all war exercises, Pakistan army portrays the Indians as the enemy, not Afghan or Chinese. Each Pakistani soldiers is told that he is to fight not just one but nine Indian soldiers, because of the numerical majority of Indians. Therefore, when Indian Army came into the battle, Pakistan army should have been only too happy to put their life long training to test. Why did they surrender instead? They did so because Mukti Bahini (The Liberation Forces) had already crushed their morale to fight. Akhtar Ahmed, p.g.1-3. ================================== I have reason to believe that a quarter inside Bangladesh do not want our newer generation to get courage and bravery from their forefather those who fought the liberation war instead this quarter is more interested to spread only hatred not courage. Cuz they are very much aware of our bravery so they are more interested to keep us busy only in 1971 so tat they can keep looting us, killing us around the border area, block all our river flows etc. Any countryanytime can turn as our enemy and inshallah we shall again raise our head high as we did in 1971.Just dont look at Bangladesh.
