AKPABIO TO END STRONGER 3 By Emmanuel Nicholas From the deplorable Calabar - Itu road, which is now dualized with modern drainage system, an Underground pipe jacking flood control, that can also generate electricity, garnished with eccentric fly-overs, water fountains/falls at Itam peace column and heavenly Broad Street -floor light completed. The Government of Godswill Obot Akpabio CON moved the earth equipment to the devastated Use Ikot `Amama Road, now tarred with nylon bitumen, dualized in sections, wiping away the tears and agonies from Ibiono Ibom , Itu – and Ikono people. One will not forget in a hurry how the overwhelmed women with emotions, laid their wrappers for the executive governor of Akwa Ibom to walk on during the inauguration of that Road. For who had remembered them, a people once forgotten, rejected and dejected by various Governments. It was the turn of the appalling Abak –Ikot Ekpene Road, which was not passable for decades, now dualized with the finest drainage system, divided with precious stones for the safety of road Users, embellished with street flood lights and underpinning rocky-nylon tarmac. The uncommon transformer Chief Godswill Akpabio CON migrated to salvage Etebi – Enwang road whose sight was pathetic and it was a death trap for Enwang people, constructed with qualitative drainage, with a stones base of 10 ft to withstand the tropical rainfall of those communities. The day of inauguration was historic, as the people of the communities won’t forget in hurry how God visited in person, using his Son to come to their redemption from diffident nature of their road. Afaha Obong-Etim Ekpo/Ika -Uwukem Road was another deadly terrain, which was not motorable and for decades the people of that community were going through hell in transporting their Agricultural product to the urban markets and there was absence of inter-community traders because of lack of motorable roads. During its inauguration it was a day of singing and dancing by community women and the youths were not restricted from showing their gratitude to the uncommon governor of Akwa Ibom State Chief Godswill Akpabio who had turned around their fortune and brought hope to their door steps. Afaha-Obong – Ika – Etim Ekpo communities never had any well-constructed road before the ingress of the present administration in the State , there was a slowdown of economy activities in the Area but today economic accomplishments is on the rise in their communities , hence lifting the living standards of the locals .The Afaha Obong –Ika –Etim Ekpo Road is built with drainages and street lighting to stamp out flooding after rain fall and provide security during night hours for road users and the community . Aka –Nung Udoe Road was one the most lessened topography in Akwa Ibom State , there was occurrence of accidents at least once a week by motorists who would wish to over-take , in such bid there was always head to head collision with the upcoming vehicles. It was truly a dead trap for commuters and many lost their lives frequently. Apart from the road’s awful nature, the political under-tone by professional rumour-mongers had that, out of the tension between the former governor of Akwa Ibom State and his successor Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio CON , but they were amazed when the Ono Mkpo Inam governor awarded contract for its construction . The first controversy that greeted that award was the choice of Construction Company, because it was a Chinese firm, there was a mild protest by the youths of Ibesikpo –Asutan and this was ill motivated by oppositions who at that time were searching for all unnecessary boulevards to blackmail the government of Chief Godswill Akpabio. One year later the road was completed, a six lane dual carriage-way, with the premium drainages, walkway, road divide, road side trees/flowers, street- floodlight and two embellish roundabouts , which the one at Nung Udoe is the biggest in West Africa. On the day of commissioning by the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the women of the both Aka and Ibesikpo –Asutan danced as the maidens of Efik Kingdom on the day of their traditional marriages. They all sang the name of governor Akpabio as a national anthem, ‘’Uko Akwa Ibom amanam , se eyen isong mme kinama , itong uwem asong fi, Uko Akwa Ibom nnyin , na-nam ka iso kufiak edem ooooo yooo ooo yoo‘’ ‘’Uko Akwa Ibom you have done well, you have been able to do what an indigene did not do, continue in your good work, don’t look back’’ Aka- Nung Udoe Road is one of the most outstanding roads constructed by the present administration, a beauty to behold, with splendid finishing that has made the Chinese firm a toast of Nigeria construction market, as demand for their services have risen. This series is to highlight the gigantic projects which Governor Akpabio will end his administration with, he promised to end stronger, in so many events, the uncommon reformer and transformer has continued to profess before Akwa Ibom people that he will be commissioning projects even on the day of hand over, that from the projects site he will come to hand-over. One of the most outstanding achievements of this administration is roads evolutions which have open up Akwa Ibom State for development, as even now economic activities is on the increase in the State. A country’s road network should be efficient in order to maximize economic and social benefits. They play a significant role in achieving national development and contributing to the overall performance and social functioning of the community. It is acknowledged that roads enhance mobility, taking people out of isolation and therefore poverty A high quality road network is essential not only for connecting key urban centres but for improving connectivity of more isolated local communities for whom many public transport options are limited or not available. National and non-national routes connect remote communities with the areas where employment options are more concentrated and services and facilities more readily available. So with the coming of Ibaka Deep Sea Port , Industries and improve tourism sectors, good road network is the essential infrastructure needed, in order to have safe delivery of cargos which will berth at the Africa’s deepest sea- port. To attract more tourists and investments good road network is very strategic in achieving all these. Most people thought that by now Governor Akpabio would slow down in his mission of uncommonly changing the landscape of Akwa Ibom State , but the reverse is the case, this truly shows that when he vowed that he is angry in sprit to develop the land , it was not just a mere bragging of a spoil brat ,but as the Nehemiah, was vex within him because of the desolate land of his fathers . Earnestly Governor Akpabio saw the deplorable state of the land he comes from and the way his people were treated as second class citizen in the comity of states in the Nigerian nation. Today all the rivers in Uyo have disappeared , there is no River Attah or River Godswill as the administration has given Abuja a run , for which city to be the most beautiful city in Nigeria. Chief Dr Godswill Akpabio CON is surely ending stronger in the road construction revolution as he has awarded contract for the dualization of Uyo –Ikot Ekpene Road – Aba road, a federal road, which he decides to construct having seen the anguish experience on the road by commuters and motorists .The road which is a complete dead trap, his deplorable state has made armed robbers and kidnappers to take advantage of it and inflict pains on traders who ply the road to purchase their goods. The road will be constructed in two phases, lot1 from Uyo to Ikot Ekpene and second phase from Ikot Ekpene to Aba. The advantage of this road is not only for traders and commuters, but Aba and Onitsha are commercial centres in Nigeria where there is more importers exporters of goods, so with a good Uyo –Ikot Ekpene -Aba road the importers and exporters will be encourage to freight their goods to and from, Ibaka Deep Sea- Port. The Construction of the Ten-Lane ring-road III with two new flyovers at the sum of N28.5 billion is on-going, as it has reach 60percent of job done, the first fly-over by Abak road is completed, and on completion it will decongest the main city from traffic jam. The road spans from Idoro Road, across Abak, Aka -Oron and ends at Nwaniba road. Governor Godswill Akpabio has awarded a contract of over N9 billion for the construction of the Aka-Etinan road linking Abak local government area. This is another road which deplorable state was worrisome, the dwellers of the communities on the road which span four local government Area, Uyo , Ibesikpo Asutan,Nsit Ibom and Etinan local Government Areas were living in trauma as no car was able to ply the road . So they had to trek far distance to be able board a vehicle to their destination. Governor Akpabio has also flagged off the dualisation of a 75-kilometre Federal Road- Eket-Etinan-Uyo Road costing about N26 billion. The dualised road will have parking lots and three bridges constructed by CCECC Nigeria Ltd the company which did the magnificent work on Aka –Nung Udoe Road and would be completed in 36 months. The construction will be done from three locations: One from Eket, another in the middle and the other to start from Etinan Town and the three will join to have it completed in 2015. Governor Akpabio who is not relenting in his efforts of dividing history, before Akpabio and after Akpabio,( BA-BC )has approved the dualisation of Eket-Ibeno Road, on completion, the road, on which work is to commence immediately over a period of 18 months, will have four bridges, and is also awarded to CCECC. This was the project NNDC have toiled with for years to no avail. Governor Akpabio led Government have constructed More than 300 roads spanning over 1000km and more are on-going , before he vacate office , it would run up to 2000km To ensure the roads built are properly and timely maintained , the prudent governor has set up Akwa Ibom Road Maintenance Agency so there will be not pot hole in the State and governor Akpabio also Procured 1 grader each for the 31 LGAs of the State to ensure periodic maintenance of rural roads. There is a saying that, if every king keeps to his promises, there will be no forceful abdication, Akpabio is keeping to his word of ending stronger, and can all the leaders in this country, Nigeria emulate him? For truly he is Nigeria’s model of true leadership Written by Emmanuel Nicholas . aka White Bom Bom , An Artiste, Author,Poet,Social Critic and President, Foundation Against Tribalism And Social Vices In Nigeria (FATSVIN) tel +234 80 333 750 68,81733 75068, email whitebombom@yahoo, editor@crackdownnews , follow me on facebook crackdownnews newspaper or Emmanuel Nicholas Okokon ,
