ALLAGASH TRIPEL Batch#201 As for the yummy Tripel, we have tried various versions here, and I guess the top ones are Belgians... or are they? Allagash brewery is from Portland, Maine and like Smuttynose, they make some seriously delicious brews. The pour on this beer was a cloudy golden yellow with white cappuccino-like foam. This Tripel has decadent aromas of banana bread, lemon, cloves, and... rising yeast dough. The aromas alone, made me hungry. Alright, now the taste- this is where it makes it with the Belgian badboys, or stays home in a windowless basement. My first sip, I got liquorice, dried cranberries, melon. Second sip, I tasted all Cantelope! Third sip, I was getting a peculiar, but not bad bitter finish... kind of like eating a endive. .. Hey, thats from Belgium, right!? Verdict. This Tripel could stand its ground, but could it go toe-to-toe with say, Rochefort? St.Bernadus? ? Corsendonk? .. Hmmm, they were all say, a sweeter tripel- so, really its your preference. Great effort from the EAST COOOOAAAST-!! USA!! USA!!!
